Matched: 2013 to 2018

Volunteering with Big Brothers and Sisters of Lethbridge has been one of the most influential and life-changing experiences I’ve ever had. I met my little when she was 9 years old. I have spent the past 5 years learning, having fun, and growing with my little sister. I have watched her grow up and blossom into the amazing young woman she is. The connection my little sister and I have developed is so meaningful and unlike anything else. She is a true friend.

Being a big sister has helped me grow in ways I did not know I could. I have had so many amazing opportunities I would not have had without this program. Volunteers go into a match thinking they are going to make this amazing, immense change in a child’s life, which of course you do, but what I wasn’t prepared for was the huge change in myself. It’s not a one way street. Yes, they learn from you. But you also learn so much from them and THAT is irreplaceable. I would like to thank Emma and the rest of the BBBS team for being SO amazing and always being there for me throughout this whole journey.

This experience has been so rewarding and humbling. There are so many children in our community waiting for their own big brother or sister. I encourage anyone thinking about becoming a big brother or sister to stop waiting and DO IT. You will be so glad you did.
